Beijing's Belt and Road 'militias' to be deployed in Serbia, Hungary and Poland

The Chinese Communist Party is preparing to deploy elite police units in Central Europe to protect Chinese interests. This move, which comes as tensions between China and the European Union are running high, will also serve to establish contingents to monitor and influence the region.

Solomon Islands' secret security deal with Beijing survives change of government

The new prime minister of the Solomon Islands, Matthew Wale, had long promised transparency regarding the secret security deal signed with Beijing in 2022. But in a sharp turnaround, the leader recently said he will not release the agreement. For its part, Beijing never really feared Wale's past promises and already has a ready-made model in place to consolidate its influence.

Wei Xiaodong affair upends Beijing's powerful elite

Beijing's anti-corruption authorities have submitted a dossier to Chinese President Xi Jinping deemed too sensitive to be passed on to the Politburo Standing Committee. This follows the launch of an investigation into Wei Xiaodong, a senior official from Fujian, whose downfall threatens part of the party elite and places the head of state in a delicate position ahead of the 5th Plenum.
