Turkey’s MIT or Milli Isthabarat Teskilati (National Intelligence Organisation) was founded in 1965. It handles internal and external intelligence-gathering for the Turkish government. For many years the MIT was operated by the army but it is opening more and more to civilian personnel too and is cooperating increasingly with US and Russian intelligence agencies.
