The DGSI (Direction Generale de la Securite Interieure), previously known as the DCRI, is the French internal intelligence agency. It is in particular responsible for fighting terrorism in France. It comes under the wing of the ministry of interior. It gathers what used to be France’s general intelligence services, RG (Renseignements Generaux) and the DST (Direction de la Surveillance du Territoire).
Unlike Britain and the United States, France has never created a clear administrative framework for dealing with oversees informers, particularly those who are exfiltrated to France because their lives might be in danger. The DGSE recently found itself before the administrative court in Marseille in a particularly sensitive case concerning its handling of a Rwandan informer. [...]
