After establishing a new political platform in which the more powerful ethnic armed forces are most prominent, the Burmese resistance is now focusing on intelligence. Covert operations have shifted to building networks of informants and a joint intelligence framework is being set up.

Sittwe siege sparks diplomatic manoeuvring around rebel Arakan Army

Bangladesh, China, India and the Burmese opposition are all courting ethnic militia chief Twan Mrat Naing, whose army is fighting the ruling junta in Arakan State. These parties each have a stake in this region in western Myanmar and are seeking to cover their backs as the fate of state's city of Sittwe, under attack from the Arakan Army, remains uncertain.

Resistance unites under new national council in face of boldened junta

With post-election political maneuvering in full swing, the Burmese resistance is poised to announce the creation of a unified national council. The new body is set to take precedence over the exiled unity government NUG and will place influential ethnic groups in charge of military affairs.

Resistance spy chief captured by junta militia in Shan State

A senior official of Myanmar's opposition government NUG who went missing late last month, has been abducted by an armed group in Shan State, according to Intelligence Online sources. His captors are involved in opium trafficking and are known for carrying out summary executions.

Moscow quietly bolsters Myanmar junta's drone warfare capabilities

Myanmar in November received Russian anti-drone equipment, as well as a batch of Orlan-30 spy drones. According to Ukrainian intelligence, which is cooperating with the local resistance, the material is already being used against armed opposition groups and heralds the arrival of kamikaze drones.
