Seoul's future nuclear sub programme, a better deal than AUKUS?

By opting for low-enriched uranium, domestic production, and safeguards from the International Atomic Energy Agency for its future nuclear submarine programme, Seoul is trying to keep Washington on side without abandoning its alliance with Paris. As such, the programme is emerging as a verifiable and transparent alternative to AUKUS.

Beijing toughens stance on Taiwan and Hong Kong's non-US foreign supporters

Chinese leader Xi Jinping has capitalised on Washington's ambiguous stance on Taiwan to implement a discreet strategic overhaul. Lawmakers, journalists, and media outlets from Japan and other non-US Western democracies that express solidarity with either Taiwan or the Lai Ching-te administration are being monitored and may be barred from entering China.

Wei Xiaodong affair upends Beijing's powerful elite

Beijing's anti-corruption authorities have submitted a dossier to Chinese President Xi Jinping deemed too sensitive to be passed on to the Politburo Standing Committee. This follows the launch of an investigation into Wei Xiaodong, a senior official from Fujian, whose downfall threatens part of the party elite and places the head of state in a delicate position ahead of the 5th Plenum.
