The 6 April meeting in Manama between CIA director William Burns, and the king of Bahrain, Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, was followed closely by two of the monarch's sons: Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the king's eldest son, the crown prince and prime minister, and Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, national security adviser (NSA) and secretary-general of the Supreme Defence Council (SDC). Both have become security mainstays during his reign.
