The Community of Sant'Egidio is putting the finishing touches to its traditional Christmas lunch, a meal shared on Christmas day with the poor. What started off as a local initiative in Rome in the early 1980s now involves 240,000 people in 70 countries. The event is a sign of how eminent the Community has become over the last few decades, with its international power growing as its links with Pope Francis have strengthened.
