The resumption of border hostilities on 10 November after a Cambodian mine wounded a Thai soldier provided a boost for the defence exhibition in Bangkok. China and Vietnam are meanwhile providing equipment and services to Cambodia.

A former agent for Norway's domestic intelligence service, Jacob Waerness was head of security at Lafarge's Syrian factory. He is an embarrassing co-defendant at the cement manufacturer's former executives' trial for financing terrorism.

In what appears to be a fresh diplomatic gamble by Paris, the French defence ministry sent a military-industrial delegation to Georgia earlier this month to explore potential arms sales. The move comes as Tbilisi finds itself increasingly isolated from the rest of the EU.

In the face of Russia's rising hostility, the French spy ship Dupuy-de-Lôme has been increasing its missions near the Arctic Circle. While the vessel's primary role is to gather intelligence, these outings also serve to demonstrate France's willingness to back the countries that welcome it.
