The former director of France's DGSE foreign intelligence agency, Bernard Bajolet, is to stand trial on 6 and 7 November for his service's "pressure tactics" against businessman Alain Duménil. But the man who masterminded the strong-arm operation, the late spymaster deeply involved with the DGSE's most secret activities, will be glaringly absent.

Briefly exempted from Western sanctions, the operator of the Nord Stream pipelines which transport the Russian giant's gas, made an attempt to recover its frozen funds in Zurich, before Washington swiftly reimposed sanctions on the Swiss-based entity.
