Intelligence becomes diplomatic weapon at US State Department

The head of the State Department's Bureau of Intelligence and Research, Brett Holmgren, will take part in the Annual Threat Assessment hearings. It's a clear sign of his service's growing power at a time when the Biden administration is seeking to develop its use of intelligence as a diplomatic tool.

Olivier Christen, a close associate of the French justice minister, is in pole position to succeed Jean-François Ricard as head of the national anti-terrorism prosecutor's office, the judicial partner of the DGSI domestic intelligence agency.

An ex-NSC and State Department official, Joseph has been pressing his client's case with elected officials and US diplomats. Joseph, who's now with the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, allegedly promoted bogus evidence when at the NSC that helped pave the way for the 2003 invasion of Iraq.
